2024年3月12日，中国科学院海洋研究所王法明课题组在副热带南太平洋影响厄尔尼诺（El Nino）方面取得重要进展，揭示了副热带南太平洋对El Nino海温异常传播方向年代际变化的调制机理，这对丰富ENSO理论有重要意义，目前相关成果发表在Climate Dynamics。
